- Find out how and where to search for patents in our guide to patent information.
Changes to Standards Access
Wendt Library is switching from ILI to the IHS Standards Expert as our major standards resource. The same database that brings you full text of ASTM standards also gives you information on more than 1 million standards worldwide. Please note that unlike ILI, IHS Expert does not include a request facility for Wendt to order standards.
- Need to search standards?
- Use the IHS Standards Expert.
- Want Wendt Library to purchase a standard?
- Use our new standards request form.
Standards and Codes
- Check MadCat for standards owned by UW - Madison.
- Find standards at Wendt on the 2nd floor of the library near the main desk. ASTM and IEEE standards are on the E-Resources Gateway. SAE-J standards are on a computer next to the 2nd floor copier.
- Search using the IHS Standards Expert for known standards or to find worldwide standards on a particular subject.
- Request standards for purchase: Wendt Library will purchase paper editions of most standards requested by UW faculty, staff, and students for use in instruction or research.
- Not affiliated with UW-Madison? Purchase standards directly from TechStreet, NSSN, or the ANSI Standards Store.
Technical Reports
- Finding technical reports can be hard. If you’re having trouble, contact us and we’ll help you out. Read about the Technical Report Center at Wendt.
- Check MadCat first – it will give an exact call number location for many of our reports, or links to online reports. Don’t give up if you don’t find the report in MadCat – we have many reports on the shelves that are not listed in MadCat.
- Search the NTIS database-CSA to find technical reports on a topic or to get report details for a known item. Make a note of all numbers found.
- Search other specialized report databases. Many, including the NTIS web site have full text online from recent years.
- Check the shelves in the 3rd floor stacks and the microfiche cabinets in the back for any report number you have.
