VA - VE Work at the University of Wisconsin

Value Engineering Studies

In 1957, the University of Wisconsin-Extension, Department of Engineering and Applied Science, conducted the first course in VE. From all accounts, this 2-day course was well-attended.

In 1965 Thomas J. Snodgrass joined the staff at the UW-Madison and offered the first three-day short course in value engineering. 120 people attended the course.

Throughout the 1970s Tom Snodgrass worked closely with SAVE to develop VA/VE training at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 1976 the university became the first educational provider to develop and offer a correspondence course in value engineering.

In 1980 the University introduced the world's first Value Engineering Specialist Diploma Program, which an individual receives upon completion of 45 Continuing Education Units in value engineering courses.
